SYNTHESIS OF NANOSCALE METAL PARTICLES

Methods for synthesizing nanodimensional metal powders have been developed: nickel, cobalt, copper, bismuth, silver - based on the thermal decomposition and reduction of their carboxylates in organic liquids with a high boiling point. By varying the process conditions, the size of the metal particles can be controlled.

Reduction of the mechanical mixture of silver and bismuth stearates leads to the formation of spherical aggregates up to 1 μm in size, consisting of small particles of silver and bismuth up to 100 nm in size.

Advantages of the method are simplicity of implementation and the possibility of scaling the process.

Thermal decomposition of metal salts in benzyl alcohol

Varying the process conditions, it is possible to control the size of the metal particles.

Technical and economic advantages:
  • particle size from 50 to 800 nm
  • powders are easy to store and transport
  • powders have non-flammable properties
Applications:
  • in the electronic industry for production of multilayer capacitors
  • for the manufacture of filter elements and various alloys
  • for the preparation of catalysts, etc.
