MECHANOCHEMICAL SYNTHESIS OF FINE LITHIUM GAMMA-MONOALUMINATE

The method of the mechanochemical synthesis of fine lithium gamma-monoaluminate is developed for use in electrochemical power engineering for the production of fuel elements with carbonate molten  electrolyte and in thermal batteries.

The method is based on the mechanical activation of a mixture of lithium carbonate and aluminium hydroxide in planetary centrifugal mills developed at the ISSCM SB RAS, followed by thermal treatment of the mixture. The method allows obtaining the ready product with the phase purity higher than 99% and specific surface more than 10 m2/g.

The development is patented in RF

Advantages of the method:
  • Lithium gamma-monoaluminate is obtained in the fine dispersed state,
  • Ecological safety (toxic solution is excluded from the process),
  • Low cost of initial reagents,
  • Simple preparation procedure,
  • Reduced temperature and shortened time of thermal treatment,
  • High specific surface of the ready product.
