BIOCIDE FOR ANTIFOULING COATINGS

Biocide for thermoplastic antifouling coatings – paints (TCP) on the basis of arsenic sulphide was developed. The addition of arsenic oxide into the composition of biocide provides increased and stable performance lifetime of antifouling coating.
Dependence of TCP lifetime on the concentration of arsenic oxide in biocide:

Biocide composition, %

* - fouling value is given in % of total surface of the coating.

Н – complete absence of fouling of the surface of coating.

Comparative toxicity of substances with
respect to bacterial test culture
Advantages:
  • increased and stable lifetime of antifouling coating;
  • a decrease in the volume of accumulated arsenic-containing dumps near metallurgical objects that constitute a threat to ecology;
  • use of gold-arsenic concentrates from a number of deposits, as well as arsenic-containing wastes from lead, tin and copper works to obtain arsenic oxide;
  • coatings based on arsenic do not contaminate oceanic environment.
Patented in Russia.
Application areas
Protection of the hulls of sea crafts, waterworks, tubings and reinforced concrete constructions working in bioaggressive media, from fouling with various sea organisms.
